The Suwannee County Cattlemen Association will be hosting their Open Youth Beef Show on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20. The event, which runs back-to-back with the Suwannee Valley Youth Livestock Show and Sale, will be held at the Suwannee County Fairgrounds, located at 1302 11th St. in Live Oak and will feature heifer, cow/calf and bull entries from youth ages four to 18-years-old.
Check-in will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 19, followed by a mandatory exhibitor meeting and complimentary dinner at 5 p.m. Later that evening, at 7 p.m., the bull show will begin. The heifer and cow/calf show will take place on Saturday, March 20, at 10 a.m.
The breed entry fee is $30 per head and, while early registration ended on Monday, March 15, entries can be registered up to the day of the show with an additional fee of $15 per head. Electric sites are also available on a first come basis for $35. To register entries, fill out the online form at form.jotform.com/sampson/suwanneecattlemenspringshow.
Prizes for the heifer and bull categories include: $150 and a buckle for the grand champion; $100 for reserve and $50 for runner-up. Prizes for the grand champion cow/calf category include $150 and a buckle. Showmanship prizes are: $50 and a buckle for first place; $30 for second place and $20 for third place.
In addition to the show, there will also be a raffle for a chance to win either a commercial Brangus heifer or $500 cash. The heifer is being provided by Mayo Auto Parts, Farmers Cooperative, Jim Hinton Oil Co. and Moore Farms, with feed being donated by Cargill Co. Tickets are $1 each and the drawing will take place on Thursday, March 25. All money raised will help support the beef show.
