It's been nine years since Suwannee County hosted a beauty pageant, but Adrienne Taylor, the Executive Director at Suwannee Education Foundation, has decided that 2021 will be the year to carry on the tradition once more. Established in 1993, the pageant should have been a 27 year long tradition. However, due to a lack of interest, the last pageant took place back in 2012.
All contestants must have a 2.5 overall GPA and be in good academic standing in all classes. Contestants should not have any major disciplinary offenses, if incidents occur after an application and entrance fee are received, the contestant will be disqualified with no refund given. Contestants must be able and willing to attend all practices, appearances and meetings. Contestants must sell sponsorships for the pageant program, each contestant is required to sell a minimum of $300 worth of ads for the program.
The Miss Suwannee High Scholarship Pageant will take place on Saturday, May 8, at the Suwannee High School (SHS) auditorium at 5 p.m. The Little Miss Pageant will take place in the middle of the Miss Suwannee High Pageant, in between segments. Contestants available to compete are junior girls from SHS as well as kindergarten and first graders from Suwannee County elementary schools. This year’s grand prize consists of a $1,000 dollar scholarship, but there are hopes that next year’s will be even more impressive. Registration is open from now until Friday, March 5.
