The Live Oak Church of God, located at 9828 US-129, will be hosting a "Taking it to the Streets" BBQ dinner on Saturday, Feb. 27, to kick-off an outreach program which focuses its efforts on feeding the homeless. The event's coordinator, John Paquette, has been providing clothing, blankets and warm meals to the homeless in Lake City, every Saturday. Now, he is trying to establish an organization to help spread the love.
Each BBQ dinner plate is priced at $15 and includes ribs, pork, beans and a drink. In addition to the meal, there will also be a concert featuring The Hyssongs, a southern gospel group whose songs "There is a God," "Choose Life," "Run the Race," "I Tell Them Jesus," "Let the Hallelujahs Ring" and "Turn to the Cross," are all number one songs on the Singing News Radio Charts. While the meal costs $15, the concert is free.
"My heart's in it for the homeless," Paquette said. "There are about 12 people in Lake City who consistently need help, so we get their names and sizes so we can get them clothes that fit."
The Live Oak Church of God's doors will open at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27 and the dinner will go from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Hyssongs will then take the stage at 7 p.m. to provide beautiful gospel music.
