Dr. Daniel Crews, age 68, of Live Oak, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021, at 11 a.m. surrounded by his loving wife and children. Dan was born in Bartow, Fla. and graduated from Ft. Meade High School. He attended Florida Southern for his BA, VanderCook college of music in Chicago, Ill. for his Master's and Boston University for his PhD of music education. Dr. Crews played all kinds of musical instruments but his fondest was the trumpet and piano. Dr. Crews was a music teacher/band director his whole career and touched many hearts with his works. He produced six Christmas CDs and loved giving them away. He taught in the Suwannee County School system until 2018 before retiring after 32 years. Over his many years he taught approximately 88,000 children. He had a love for gardening and growing flowers and vegetables. He and his wife Ginny loved traveling to different states on their Goldwing Motorcycle.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ginny "Meme" Crews; children: Mary (James) Deal of Bartow, Christina (Jason) Sparkman of Live Oak, Scott (Tina) Moore of Kentucky and Traci (Warren) Davis of Live Oak; seven grandsons: Devin, Austin, Jesse, Blake, Jacob, Ethan and Paul.
Memorial services were held at First Advent Christian Church on Saturday, Feb. 13, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating.
