The Suwannee High School (SHS) Lady Bulldogs and the Branford High School (BHS) Lady Buccaneers weightlifting teams dominated the recent Class 1A District Four weightlifting meet. The meet was held at SHS on Friday, Jan. 22. Between the two teams, they took first place in each of the different weight classes.
In the 101 pound weight class, Lady Bulldog Aislinn Henry took first place with a 115 pound bench press and a 140 pound clean and jerk lift, for a total of 255 pounds Macy Bowers, from SHS took third place with a bench press of 105 pounds and a clean and jerk of 115 pounds for a total of 220 pounds. Branford's Liberty Ward was in fifth place with a 70 pound bench press and a 85 pound clean and jerk for a 155 pound total. Lady Buc Delaney Fennell took sixth place with a 70 pound bench press and an 80 pound clean and jerk, for a total of 150 pounds.
First place in the 110 pound weight class went to Matti Marsee, of SHS, who had a 150 pound bench press and a 140 pound clean and jerk for a total of 290 pounds. The second place finisher was Ali McMillan, from SHS. McMillan had a 110 pound bench and a 125 pound clean and jerk with a 235 pound total. Madison Ward, from BHS, took third place with an 85 pound bench and a 115 pound clean and jerk, for a 205 pound total. Fourth place went to Daisy Robinson, from BHS, with an 85 pound bench and a 90 pound clean and jerk, for a total of 175 pounds.
Lady Buc Halleigh-Ray Harris took the top spot in the 119 pound weight class with a 130 pound bench and a 135 pound clean and jerk, for a total of 265 pounds. Cheyenne Morgan, from SHS, came in second with a 115 pound bench and a 125 pound clean and jerk for a 240 pound total. Nathalia Veal, of BHS, took third place with a 110 pound bench and a 130 pound clean and jerk, for a 240 pound total. Bre Rodriguez, from SHS, came in fourth with a 100 pound bench and a 105 pound clean and jerk, for a 205 pound total.
In the 129 pound weight class, it was Sophie Baldwin, from SHS in first place with a 140 pound bench and a 160 pound clean and jerk, giving her a 300 pound total. Lady Buc Hannah Terry came in second place with a 130 pound bench and a 140 pound clean and jerk, for a total of 270 pounds. Lady Bulldog Kamryn Lee took third place with her 90 pound bench and 100 pound clean and jerk, for a total of 190 pounds. Andi Sabourin was in fifth place with an 80 pound bench, a 105 pound clean and jerk and a 185 pound total.
In the 139 pound weight class, Tyra Kalandyk, from SHS was in first place with a 170 pound bench and a 170 pound clean and jerk for a total of 340 pounds. Evie Pitts, of BHS, took second place with her 155 pound bench and 180 pound clean and jerk for a total of 335 pounds. Lady Bulldog Johanna Alicia came in third place with a 120 pound bench and a 125 pound clean and jerk, for a 245 pound total. Fifth place went to Em Varga, from BHS, who had a 115 pound bench and a 110 pound clean and jerk, for a total of 225 pounds.
Another Lady Bulldog, Carson Frier, placed first in the 154 pound weight class. Frier had a bench press of 135 pounds and a clean and jerk of 165 pounds, giving her a total of 300 pounds. Second place went to another Lady Bulldog, Emma Brown, who had a bench press of 130 pounds and a clean and jerk of 140 pounds, for a total of 270 pounds. Morgan Brennan, from BHS, placed third with a 95 pound bench and a 110 pound clean and jerk, a total of 205 pounds. Fourth place went to Madison Olson, from BHS, for her 90 pound bench and 100 pound clean and jerk for a 190 pound total.
The top spot in the 169 pound weight class went to McKay Graham, from SHS, who had a 135 pound bench press and a 145 pound clean and jerk for a total of 280 pounds. Reina Harry, from SHS, took second place with a 115 pound bench press and a 140 pound clean and jerk, giving her a total of 255 pounds. Fourth place went to Emma Clary, from BHS, who lifted 120 pounds in the bench press and 110 pounds in the clean and jerk for a total of 230 pounds.
In the 183 pound weight class, Maddie Carte, of SHS, came in first place with a 160 pound bench press and a clean and jerk of 150 pounds for a 310 pound total. Erin Starling, also of SHS, took second place with a bench press of 130 pounds and a clean and jerk of 130 pounds for a total of 260 pounds. Maya Brown, from BHS placed third with a bench press of 105 pounds and a clean and jerk of 110 for a total of 215 pounds. Haylee Adair, of BHS, came in fourth place with a 95 pound bench and a 105 pound clean and jerk, giving her a 200 pound total.
In the 199 pound weight class, it was Lady Bulldog Kenzie Lang who won first place with a bench press of 120 pounds and a clean and jerk of 145 pounds for a total of 265 pounds. Second place went to Brooke-Lynn Hanuszak, from SHS, who had a bench press of 125 pounds and a 140 pound clean and jerk, giving her a 265 pound total. Kacie Fernandez, from BHS, placed fourth with a 115 pound bench press and a 110 clean and jerk for a 245 pound total. Another BHS athlete, Mateah Shaylor, took fifth place with her 105 pound bench press and 110 pound clean and jerk.
In the unlimited class, Autumn Latrielle, from SHS, took first place with a bench press of 170 pounds and a clean and jerk of 160 pounds for a total of 330 pounds. Samantha Barber, from SHS, earned the second place spot with a 170 pound bench press and 155 pound clean and jerk for a 325 pound total. Branford's Aubrey Wood placed third with a 130 pound bench press and a 135 pound clean and jerk, which gave her a 135 pound total. Martina Corbin, from BHS, came in fifth place with a 125 pound bench press and a 115 pound clean and jerk, which was good for a 240 pound total.
The Lady Bulldogs took first place overall, followed by the Lady Bucs. Individually, the top six finishers in each weight class moved on to the regional meet, which was held on Friday, Jan. 29, at Suwannee High School.
