Jack Cox, age 74, of Jasper, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at the home of his daughter, Cindy. The Hamilton County native and lifelong resident was born on July 21, 1946, to the late J.D. and Sadie Barton Cox. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy. Upon return from the military, the bulk of his career was spent working for the Hamilton County School Board at the bus barn as a mechanic. Jack was not one to just sit around and so following his time with the school board he worked for both the City of Jasper and Suburban Propane. As a young man, Jack enjoyed going down to Lake City to the racetrack but fishing would have to be listed at the top of his hobby priority list. It didn't matter when or where he was always ready to go fishing. When the river was dry, he loved riding his dune buggy in the riverbed with friends and family. Jack was a member of the Jasper Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Loretta Cox and his sister, Sadie Cox Jones. Survivors include his daughters: Melissa Freeman (Anthony), of Atlanta, Ga., Cindy Santerfeit (Tommy), of Live Oak and Mary Franklin, of Live Oak; his brothers: J.D. Cox (Shirley), of Lake City, Harry Cox (Myra) and Ben Cox, all of Jasper; two sisters, Sandra Wood (Tommy) and Gwen Cox Black, all of Jasper; five grandchildren: Samantha, Kandace, Brianna, Lindsay and London; two great grandchildren, Gage and Karmyn; honorary son, Jeff Cox (Sue) who spent a great deal of time with his uncle Jack and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery with Brother Greg Godwin officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 7520 West University Ave, Gainesville, Fla. 32607. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home, in Jasper, was in charge of arrangements.
