Hamilton County celebrated the Christmas holiday on Saturday, Dec. 14, with the annual Sweets-N-the-Streets event, which is part of the yearly festivities hosted by the Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the City of Jasper and the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners. The festival began at 2 p.m., featuring a variety of vendors offering arts and crafts, food and desserts lining the streets near the Hamilton County Courthouse. Among the vendors were representatives from the Hamilton Correctional Institute and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, where visitors could try on prison riot gear and explore the sheriff’s side-by-side buggy. Local dance group Danceology also showcased its talents in the park during the festival, while festivalgoers enjoyed strolling through the event. At 6 p.m., the Christmas parade commenced, winding through downtown Jasper and creating a festive atmosphere for children of all ages as the floats illuminated the chilly evening. After the parade, children had the chance to take photos with Santa Claus.
