Floridians are no strangers to the devastation that a hurricane can bring. So when John Hill of Live Oak Kiwanis received a call from the Texas/Louisiana division of Kiwanis Club International asking for help, there was only one thing to do. Live Oak Kiwanis' members sounded the rallying cry to their community members to help out. A trailer was loaded up with whatever was needed by the small communities in Louisiana that were hit by this summers hurricane season. Two hurricanes hit them back to back, extremely hard, and little was being done for them due to a lack of media coverage. Bare necessities like trash bags, paper towels, batteries, canned foods and bottled water were in dire need. Tarps, buckets, shovels, diapers and baby formula too. Everything that was necessary to help them move forward was desperately needed.
Donors included the Branford High School's Beta Club, Suwannee High School's Key Club, the Law Offices of Ryan Peters, Lake Region Kiwanis, JW Hill and Associates and Riverbend News, as well as many other community members. The drive from Live Oak to Griffin, La., is nearly 10 hours long but it was a trip well worth the time spent to John Hill. They arrived at the Kiwanis Club of Griffin in Louisiana where the donations were distributed to those in need.
