On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Live Oak City Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting. After minor changes being made, the agenda was approved. The council then approved the minutes from its previous meeting before calling for public comment. However, all of those who signed up elected to hold their comments for specific items The council first approved the 2024 City of Live Oak holiday calendar. The council then heard a presentation from Mark Glover with Keys Claims Consultants. The presentation consisted of an explanation of their insurance claims services that the company offers. The council seemed interested and told Glover they would be interested in seeing the contract and possibly having a workshop to hash out the details. The council then tabled a discussion regarding Ordinance 1517, relating to permitting for manufactured homes built before 2008. The council then began a discussion on whether or not to charge for certain-sized trash cans. Public Works Director Gerald Lee stood up to say that, to make the change, it would have to be in an ordinance, as there was already an ordinance in place for the 34-gallon cans, not the 96-gallon cans. The council members were told the ordinance would be prepared for them by the next meeting. Tommie Jefferson then brought up many roads throughout the city that he would like to see either paved or repaved. However, after a heated discussion around the board, no action was taken, and the item was tabled. City Manager Larry Sessions then told the council that he was planning on lobbying for more money from the state due to the assortment of water leaks that the city was having. The council then approved a bid from Blue Rock Inc. for infrastructure improvements for Irvin Avenue and 7th Street. The council then adopted a resolution adopting the Suwannee County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. The council continued approving a resolution to enter into a disaster relief funding agreement with the state. The council then went through multiple final ordinance readings and approvals. First was the final reading of an ordinance amending the zoning district of 0.338 acres of land from Residential Single Family – Two to Residential Office. The ordinance passed unanimously. The second ordinance was for amending the zoning district of 3.113 acres of land from Residential Single Family/Manufactured Home – Two to Residential (Unconventional) Single Family. The council approved it unanimously. The third ordinance was amending the future land use classification of 5.055 acres from Residential Low Density to Industrial. The ordinance was approved unanimously. The final ordinance was amending the zoning district of 5.055 acres of land from Residential Sing Family/Manufactured Home – Two to Residential (Unconventional) Single Family. The meeting then came to a close. The next Live Oak City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall, located at 101 White Ave. SE.
