This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused major changes throughout the country. Despite that, Mayo soccer will continue to play from January to March in 2021.
Kim Townsend, along with Jason Troutman, Andrea Troutman and Stephanie Wimberly are putting together the Mayo soccer league for kindergarten age children to 8th graders. Sign-ups will be on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Country Strong Gym, located at 405 11th St. SW Suite 101, in Live Oak. It will cost $50 to sign up, and each child will receive a shirt, shorts, socks and a trophy.
Kids will be separated by age group, with groups for kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade, fourth and fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade. Each game will be played three versus three, except for sixth through eighth grade, which will play six versus six or eleven versus eleven.
There will be four teams per age division, with five to six kids per team. The season will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and end on Tuesday, March 9. The games will be played on Saturdays, and practices will be held a few times each week.
