Lafayette Commission declares two states of emergency

On Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Lafayette County Board of County Commissioners met for its regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting began with the approval of the previous meeting's minutes. The board then called for public comment, to which there was no response. Department head reports were next on the agenda. However, there was little to report aside from general cleanup from Hurricane Helene. Garret Land, Director of Building and Zoning, asked the board members if they wished to extend the discount on permits for Helene victims. The board agreed and extended the discount for 60 days. Marty Tompkins, Director of EMS, said he would be putting
