On Monday, Sept. 23, the Branford High School Buccaneers made their way just a little to the north to face off against the Columbia County Tigers in a volleyball showdown. What ensued was an intense matchup between the two teams, which ended in a victory for the Buccaneers.
The first set established the tone for the entire game, with the Buccaneers taking the set with a score of 25-20. The second set was an upset, as the Tigers pulled out a win with a score of 25-22. Set three was another concerning one for the Buccaneers, as the Tigers stole another win with a score of 25-21. However, things got back on track for the Buccaneers in the fourth set, as they dominated with a score of 25-19. Everything came down to the line; the teams were tied with two sets under each of their belts. Each team was desperate for the win and tired from an intense game. However, the Buccaneers had a hunger that couldn't be filled, claiming the fifth and final set with a score of 15-13. The game came to a close as the Buccaneers walked away with a 3-2 victory.
After their win, the Buccaneers hold a 16-3 record. Their next game was on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when the team traveled to face off against the Dixie County Bears. No game scores were available at the time of writing, but the Buccaneers and the Bears have faced off before and it ended with a 3-0 loss for the Bears. The next home game for the Buccaneers was scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26. However, due to Hurricane Helene, that game has been canceled. The next regularly scheduled game is set for Monday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. once again against the Tigers this time on the Buccaneers' home court.
