On Saturday, Sept. 7, crowds began to gather at the Live Oak Library in the late evening. A line formed almost blocking the way as the final library patrons exited the library. Each of these individuals
were excited to see the submissions in the next room, because once again the annual Artfest hosted by the Live Oak Artist Guild had arrived. Once inside the room, the first thing everyone noticed was the buffet style table in the center of the room. Plates began to fill with food and conversation
started to fill the air. People began circling the edges of the room, not to avoid social interaction, but to enjoy the masterpieces lined along the wall.
Members of the Live Oak Artist Guild had spent
countless hours drawing, painting, editing and
focusing on their artwork. Now the culmination of
their hardwork had arrived, people were enjoying
their art and even had the possibility of purchasing it.
On top of that, there were plenty of ways to
show support for the guild. This included a silent
auction with four different pieces of art, and some art
supplies up for auction.
Best of show went to “Becoming Undone” by
Jeffrey Smart Baisden. Other categories of awards
included: Photography: first place, “Morning
Commune” by Rob Wolfe and second place,
“Hummingbird” by Nancy Scott; Painting: First
place, “The Witness” by Renee Shiska; second place,
“Acree” by Christie Stanton and third place,
“Morning on Maui” by Judith Adams; Drawing:
First place, “Theodore James Williams aka Teddy”
by Pam Williams; second place, “Finale” by Anda
Chance and third place, “Reflections of the Past” by
Glinda Pennock. “The Teeming World Below” by
Sharon Hester got the merit award and “Life
Drawing Jason” by Connor Billups received an
honorable mention. The final award given out for the
evening was the creative award which was bestowed
on “Still Tipsy After All These Years” by Sheila Hiss.
