Westwood Christian School is one of the biggest private schools in Suwannee County. Throughout the year, as different holidays and especially days of remembrance come up, Westwood will host special chapels that everyone is invited too. Most recently, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, they held one in honor of 9/11.
The students were the first to gather in the sanctuary, but they were far from the only people there. Parents, community leaders, firefighters, law enforcement, military members and an assortment of first responders made their way into the sanctuary as well. The morning started with an address from Bill Yanossy, Principal of Westwood Christian School. Those gathered were led in multiple songs by the student choir. After singing, Carl Thomas, chapel leader of the school, took to the stage to speak to everyone about how the Gospel relates to the tragedy that happened in 2001. Eventually the morning came to a close, but not without the weight of 9/11 being communicated to even the youngest participant.
The chapel was decorated in honor of those who had lost their lives, with firefighter helmets, clocks marking the significant times during the 9/11 attacks and even a mural on the back wall showing firefighters fighting through the rubble.
