Living God’s way: Not doing what is right

Once again, James makes a proverb-like statement when he says, "To one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin" (James 4:17). James is saying that not doing what is right is a sin, which is a very powerful statement considering its ramifications.
Most of the time, we think of sin as violating God's law, and that is true. The apostle John said that "sin is lawlessness" (1 John 3:4), which means that our actions and attitudes are without the approval of the law. However, James is telling us that if we do not do what is right, it is also a sin.
So we might ask, how would not doing what is right be a sin? James states that we must a
