Suwannee County Sheriff announces new deputy

Alexa Duarte  reporter2.riverbendnews@gmail.com  On Monday, July 19, Sheriff Sam St. John swore in Anna Howard as a Deputy Sheriff for the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office (SCSO).  Howard said, after spending two years serving locally as a 911 dispatcher, “I am proud to have successfully transitioned to the role of a deputy sheriff. My time as a dispatcher taught me the importance of quick thinking and empathy.” Howard feels that female deputies can better connect with women and children in the community and provide a more comforting presence in sensitive situations.  As Howard becomes a deputy, she will increase female representation by also pushing for gender equality.
