If this jingle, "You don't just like that chicken from Popeyes, you love that chicken from Popeyes!" sounds familiar, you might be a fan of Popeyes Restaurant and its Louisiana fried chicken! If so, get ready! Popeyes is coming to Live Oak hopefully in early 2021.
The announcement was made by Live Oak Development Manager George Curtis after the City Council approved Popeyes' zoning change request Tuesday, Dec. 8. The property where the new restaurant will be built is on US 129's western side just south of Economy Motors and where the new Publix just opened Tuesday, Dec. 10.
With lots of property all around the new Popeyes project, there are hints there may be some escalated future projects on the way.
Curtis, recently chosen by the City Council as Live Oak's next city manager, will take office officially Monday, Jan. 4, upon retirement of current city manager Ron Williams.
Regarding this new development, Curtis said Popeyes' dealing with the city are being handled by a development company, 30ATP Live Oak LLC. Curtis said he believes the restaurant could be open by late summer, but there are still issues to deal with in the normal process before the building can be started.
Curtis confirmed he expects lots of new developments to take place in this area north of the city. "There is plenty of land out there well positioned for future projects now that Publix has opened its new building," he commented.
Yum, yum! Bring it on Popeyes!
