Meet the members of the Branford Area Inter-Church Ministries (BAICM). The BAICM is a group that organizes many of the well-known events that happen in the Branford area, such as the annual Community Easter Sunrise Service, the Community Thanksgiving Dinner and service and the Keeping 'Christ' in Christmas light parade. They are also the ones behind Project Honor, the display of crosses and flags that honor those who have or are currently serving in the military, which are put up every Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, the BAICM held a meeting at the Branford Church of God, located off US-129 in Branford to go over their involvement in upcoming events. While they had decided they were not able to do their Thanksgiving Sunrise Service, nor would they be able to participate in the Christmas parade, they were still able to move forward with their annual turkey drive, which delivered 40 frozen turkeys to the Branford Elementary School on Monday, Nov. 16. The turkeys were donated and placed in Thanksgiving baskets that were handed out to families within the community in need of a good Thanksgiving meal.
The BAICM is committed to serving their community, going as far as providing assistance to those in need through gas and grocery vouchers, along with assisting with utility bills.
Member Mary Starling, the former pastor of Branford Oasis Church, along with other members of the group encourage members of the community to join the BAICM. "Even though the name is 'Inter-Church Ministries', anyone can join—not just ministers," Starling stresses. It's an assumption that's often held people away from joining. In fact, they're grateful for anyone and everyone who wishes to join.
The BAICM meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., at the Branford Church of God. For more information on how to get involved with the BAICM, please contact Marsha Ward at (386) 208-6187.
