Ancient shoreline in Florida connects Suwannee County rivers and springs underground

Suwannee County is home to numerous rivers and freshwater springs, and a unique geographical feature shows how the bodies of water are connected.
According to the Suwannee River Water Management District, the Cody Escarpment, or Cody Scarp for short, is a geomorphologic feature that approximates an ancient shoreline of Florida. It runs through parts of Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison and Suwannee Counties, along with other counties in North and Central Florida. The Cody Scarp is an example of karst topography, which means it is made of soluble rocks such as limestone, marble and gypsum.
