Stolen backhoe foils ATM theft in Lafayette County

Danny Federico reporter3.riverbendnews@gmail.com Shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, a deputy with the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office (LCSO), while on patrol, observed a stolen backhoe at the Lafayette State Bank ATM in Mayo. In a Facebook post, the LCSO stated the deputy immediately notified dispatch and initiated an investigation. As a result of the deputy's prompt actions, the unknown suspect(s) were prevented from stealing money from the ATM. The LCSO announced in the Facebook post that it is actively investigating the incident with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and its mobile crime lab.
