On Wednesday, Nov. 4, the Lady Bulldogs of Suwannee High School weightlifting team began their season with a resounding victory over the Lady Marauders of Maclay School and the Lady Raiders of Santa Fe High School. The Lady Bulldogs topped the other two schools in every weight class to take the match with a team score of 79 points. The Lady Raiders were in second place with 16 team points and the Lady Marauders came in third with an eight-point team score. In each weight class, a Lady Bulldog took the top spot and in most weight classes, the top two spots.
Scores are based on the amount of weight each competitor successfully lifts; with good form, etc. Each competitor lifts three times with two different forms (bench press and clean and jerk). After each successful lift, more weight is added. The best (heaviest) bench press lift is added to the best clean and jerk lift and that amount is the "total lift." Points are awarded for first through fourth place in the weight class. First place is worth five points, second place is worth three points, third place is worth two points and fourth place is worth one point. Each team's point total from each weight class is added together for the team's total for the match.
In the 101 pound weight class, Macy Bowers from the Lady Bulldogs placed first with a total of 205 pounds lifted. Lady Bulldog Breanna Rodriguez placed second with a 185 pound total.
In the 110 pound weight class, Lady Bulldog Aislinn Henry took first place with a total of 225 pounds. Lady Bulldog Ali McMillian came in second place in the weight class with a total of 215 pounds lifted.
The 119 pound weight class was also topped by two Lady Bulldogs. Matti Marsee took first place with a 285 pound total lift. Cheyenne Morgan had a second place total of 235 pounds.
