Captain Charles Floyd Cone (1835-1924) was born in Camden County, Ga. He fought during the War Between the States and was an officer. As land was readily available in Florida, he settled about a mile north of White Springs. He built the historic home at the One Mile Sill (former turpentine distillery), which is currently owned by Mary Anderson Benton and her sister, Martha Anderson Hunt, both of Jacksonville, Fla. Their parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Anderson, Sr., purchased Cone Pasture, now part of the Big Shoals State Park, in the late 1930s.
