Remembering Suwannee: Shootout in Branford, Part 2

In the article published in the Wednesday, May 22, edition of the Riverbend News, I began writing about a shootout that happened in 1890 Branford. Today, I finish the story from the standpoint of E. C. May, a store clerk in Branford during the incident but later a judge. We left off last week with one man (John Lashley, the local justice of the peace) already killed by Pete Garner and more mayhem to follow.
"Carson fired in the dark hall and Garner replied a few times and then ceased. We had seen a man raise from the floor of the porch near the door of the hall from which Garner was firing. He was in the line of Carson's fire. Some of the crowd of spectators tho
