Myrtice J. Chauncey, 95, of Live Oak, Fla., passed away at her home on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2020, with her family at her side. Mrs. Chauncey, a lifelong Suwannee County resident, was born to the late John Edward Jordan and Bessie Whiddon Jordan on Feb. 12, 1925. She worked for the North Florida Telephone Company for many years, first as a switchboard operator then, in later years and until retirement, in the front office where she became known to many as the lady at the drive thru where people, in those days, went to pay their monthly phone bill. She was married to the late Paul B. Chauncey, Sr. and together they worked and managed their family farm near Falmouth in western Suwannee County, where she lived until her passing. She loved to cook and, as anyone who ever experienced her delicious coconut cake can attest, she was good at it. More than anything, she loved the Lord, she loved her family and she loved her friends; often reminding one and all to “find peace with the Lord and to always be good to one another because you can’t redo, and you can’t undo.”
Mrs. Chauncey was preceded in death by her infant sister Dorothy, her parents, her husband and her daughter, Sandra Chauncey Fuller.
Mrs. Chauncey is survived by her son, Paul B. Chauncey, Jr. (Dottie); six grandchildren: Trey Chauncey (Annette), Tony Chauncey (Rosie), Van Chauncey, Adrienne Corbin (Travis), Natalie Baker and Austin Kinard (Crystal); and nineteen great grandchildren: Carson Chauncey, Ragan Chauncey, Jordan Chauncey, Noah Chauncey, Mason Chauncey, Decker Chauncey, Rose Chauncey, Leven Chauncey, Camdyn Chauncey, Nevaeh Chauncey, Natalia Chauncey, Annalise Edwards, Annastyn Corbin, Zoë Baker, Sidney Baker, Rylie Baker, Shelbi Baker, Bella Kinard and Gabby Kinard.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Rocky Sink Baptist Church, Live Oak, Fla., with the Rev. Mike Chauncey officiating.
