On Tuesday, April 16, the Branford High School Buccaneers went toe to toe against the Madison County Cowboys on the baseball diamond. The game started off slow, with the first inning showing no movement on the scoreboard. In the second inning, the Cowboys snuck one runner across home plate, but the Buccaneers were unable to respond. The same happened in the third inning. Then, in a drastic turn, the Cowboys snuck three more runners across the plate in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, for five innings, the Buccaneers were unable to send anyone home. Things changed in the sixth inning when the Cowboys had two more runners cross home plate. However, this time, the Buccaneers did respond with three runs of their own. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough, and the game came to a close with a 7-3 loss for the Buccaneers.
Camden Gaskins, Andres Maysonet and Austin Humphries were the three scorers for the evening, each one earning one point for the Buccaneers. Maysonet and Colby Beard were the top defensive players of the evening, each completing six outs. Behind them were Humphries and Gaskins, who completed three each. Kyler Williamson was close behind with two completed outs. Gavin Barnes was able to secure three strikeouts. Behind him were Humphries and Keaton Brown with one strikeout. The Buccaneers will travel to Dixie County next for a showdown against the Bears at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25.
